The glucose tolerance test (GTT) measures how well your body processes glucose over a period of time. In a standard 3-hour GTT, a patient fasts overnight and then drinks a glucose solution. Blood samples are taken at multiple intervals to assess how glucose levels change over time. For the 3rd sample, which is taken 2 hours after consuming the glucose, the test measures the patient's blood glucose levels to evaluate how effectively their body is managing glucose. This result helps diagnose conditions such as diabetes or gestational diabetes. Elevated glucose levels at this point may indicate impaired glucose tolerance or diabetes.
