Semen

Semen, also known as seminal fluid, is a whitish fluid that is produced by the male reproductive system and is ejaculated during orgasm. It contains spermatozoa (sperm cells), which are produced in the testes and are necessary for fertilization of the female egg. In addition to sperm, semen is composed of various secretions from the accessory glands, including the seminal vesicles, prostate gland, and bulbourethral glands. These glandular secretions provide a medium to transport the sperm, supply nutrients for sperm viability, and create an alkaline environment that helps protect sperm in the acidic environment of the female reproductive tract. Semen analysis, or sperm count test, measures various parameters of semen and sperm health, including sperm count, motility (movement), morphology (shape), and volume of the ejaculate. This test is often used to assess male fertility and diagnose potential reproductive issues.
