Asca IgA &IgG

ASCA (Anti-Saccharomyces cerevisiae antibodies) IgG and IgA are specific antibodies produced by the immune system against Saccharomyces cerevisiae, a type of yeast commonly used in baking and brewing. The ASCA IgG and IgA tests measure the levels of these antibodies in the blood. Elevated levels of ASCA IgG and/or IgA are often associated with Crohn's disease, an inflammatory bowel disease that affects the digestive tract. ASCA testing helps in differentiating Crohn's disease from other inflammatory bowel conditions, such as ulcerative colitis, which typically does not show elevated ASCA levels. The presence of ASCA antibodies can aid in diagnosing Crohn's disease, particularly in the context of other clinical findings and diagnostic tests. However, ASCA is not exclusive to Crohn's disease and can be found in some healthy individuals and other conditions. Therefore, it is used in conjunction with other diagnostic methods for a comprehensive assessment.
