HBsAg by ECLIA

HBsAg by ECLIA

The HBsAg (Hepatitis B Surface Antigen) ECLIA (Electrochemiluminescence Immunoassay) test is a diagnostic method used to detect the presence of the hepatitis B surface antigen in the blood. HBsAg is a protein on the surface of the hepatitis B virus (HBV), and its presence indicates an active HBV infection, either acute or chronic. In the ECLIA test, a blood sample is mixed with antibodies specific to HBsAg that are labeled with an electrochemiluminescent marker. If HBsAg is present, it binds to these antibodies, forming a complex. This complex is then captured by another antibody fixed on a solid phase. When an electric current is applied, the electrochemiluminescent marker emits light, and the intensity of this light is measured. The amount of light emitted is proportional to the concentration of HBsAg in the sample. The HBsAg ECLIA test is highly sensitive and specific, making it a valuable tool for diagnosing HBV infections, monitoring disease progression, and screening blood donors. Accurate detection of HBsAg helps in the early identification and management of hepatitis B, reducing the risk of complications and transmission.
